Just in the nick of time for summer drinkers, the Verant Group's Tavern at the Beach has reopened following a thoroughly modern makeover. They're currently operating with a modified schedule (9 p.m. to 2 a.m.), but starting Wednesday, July 2, Tavern will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.
They've gained a boutique bourbon selection, doubled their beer taps and added a serve-yourself wall of kegs which were initially going to be sold by the ounce, but the bar has since decided to require a pre-purchase of 1/6 barrel, 5 gallons or a pony keg; the opening keg menu includes Green Flash Brewing Co.'s West Coast IPA and Ballast Point's Pale Ale.
A brand new full-service kitchen means a menu of beer and cocktail-friendly bites, including pretzel bread-wrapped cheddar-beer brats called "kegs in a blanket", the Tavern burger on Texas toast, and crispy plantain-coconut shrimp served with green papaya and jicama slaw and a mango-mojito sauce.
