Hillcrest isn't short on pizza, from the O.G. Bronx Pizza to the newer entry, Project Pie. Now, to the same block that houses Snooze and D Bar come Amici's East Coast Pizzeria, which fills the hole left when Freebirds World Burrito folded last fall.

This new location marks the second Southern California spot for Amici's East Coast Pizzeria; they first opened an eatery on Prospect Street in La Jolla about a year ago.?

Started 26 years ago by East Coast transplants to the Bay Area, Amici's aims to infuse New York flavor into every slice and uses the 700 degree stone hearth in their traditional Italian brick oven to pop out thin crusts that promise to be "crisp, airy, and slightly chewy." Other offerings include freshly-made salads, soups and pastas.

The 2,800-square-foot dine-in or delivery eatery on Fifth Avenue is expected to open in the fall.
