Hospitality group Eat.Drink.Sleep, behind Pacific Beach's Tower 23 hotel and Moondoggie's, is about halfway through their redevelopment of the seven acre beachfront Belmont Park, which includes shopping, food and nightlife, an athletic club, carnival rides and a just-debuted weekly farmer's market.
The complex's eateries include the WaveHouse Beach Club, North Shore Cafe, Belmonty's Burgers and Plunge Pizzeria; now Eat.Drink.Read. is tackling the space left by Canes Bar & Grill when it closed in 2009. They're planning on splitting the building into three distinct restaurants; one will be an Italian concept and another, situated on the 6,000-square-foot rooftop perched high about the Mission Beach boardwalk, will be called Cannonball.
The beachy restaurant and lounge will be lined with pool tiles, ringed with fire pits and dominated by a central bar set at an angle so that every seat has an ocean view. Chef Brad Wise, executive chef of Belmont Park and the former exec sous at JRDN, is developing the Pacific Rim-inspired menu which will include small plates, sushi and a raw bar; except Cannonball to splash down in mid-July.
