Sea & Smoke's Opening Soon, and They Want You

Matt Gordon is nearing the finish line with his grand new restaurant, Sea & Smoke. The chef tells Eater that the hotly anticipated Del Mar project should be ready to reveal to the public on July 8.

Construction's moving along at a fast clip; finishes should soon be complete and all furniture has been delivered. In a week's time, the building should have its final coat of paint, four shades of gray (insert your own joke here), that'll help it stand out among the sea of shops in Flower Hill Promenade.

The outdoor patio, anchored by two large olive trees, is the first area to come online and it's where the restaurant group's management has been holding open houses to help staff up Sea & Smoke. Gordon says that they're about halfway there for the kitchen and front of house, but could use more qualified candidates. Are you one of them? Stop by Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Who's on the crew already? You've met pastry chef Jeff Bonilla, who'll be joined by chef de cuisine Billy Geiger and sous chef Matt Welch; Gordon plans to be hands-on in the kitchen too. For more thoughts straight from the source, keep up with the chef's personal blog.
