The beachfront Wonderland Ocean Pub opened this past weekend; the kitchen's first official day of operation was Sunday. Co-proprietors Mina Desiderio (The Local Eatery and Drinking Hole) and Brendan Huffman (Bootlegger Pours and Plates) renovated and refreshed the upstairs ocean view perch that once housed Nick's on the Beach.
Wonderland's new menu includes salads, sandwiches, the prerequisite fish taco and other seafood based dishes including oysters, both raw and grilled. There's funnel cake for dessert, a fair food treat that's a nod to the pub's namesake (an Ocean Beach amusement park with a 100 year history) and masaladas, a Portuguese doughnut made popular on the Hawaiian lslands.
A Hawaiian influence also pops up of their weekend brunch menu (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.), in the form of loco moco and an Aloha twist on eggs Benedict with spam and pineapple.
Wonderland's open from 11 to 2 a.m., Monday through Friday and 8 to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; specialty cocktails are half off, Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.
