Two downtown eatery owners are trying Ocean Beach on for size; Mina Desiderio of The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole and Brendan Huffman of Bootlegger are teaming up to open Wonderland Ocean Pub on the beach end of Santa Monica Avenue in June.
The oceanfront oasis will serve up classic cocktails, seafood and an a la carte grill menu, according to their Facebook page. They're holding interviews next week for a string of positions, from oyster shuckers to bartenders. Eater's also hearing that they may have live music.
It's named after Wonderland Park, San Diego's first amusement park that debuted in Ocean Beach on July 4, 1913.
The pub replaces Nick's at the Pier, which shuttered last month after six years of service. Nick's sister restaurant, Nick's at the Beach (809 Thomas Ave.) in Pacific Beach remains open.
