Local chef and cookbook author Su-Mei Yu, owner of Saffron Restaurant , has completed filming the first season of her new KPBS television show, Savor San Diego.
The first episode of the weekly series will debut on Thursday, May 2, with repeats set to air on Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. All six episodes focus on the San Diego food community; in a show entitiled The Yin-Yang of Protein, Yu visits both the San Diego Soy Dairy and Mendenhall Ranch in Palomar Mountain, where they raise grass fed beef; in Sea to Plate , she learns about local fishing culture and processes sea urchin with seafood distributor Catalina Offshore. Each episode concludes with a cooking demo by chef Yu.
Yu's India Street eatery is offering a premiere date dinner special; on May 2, order Saffron's whole chicken combo for $14.
