In honor of Eater San Diego's inaugural Burger Week, North Park's Carnitas' Snack Shack is featuring a special Eater San Diego Burger, available today through Sunday, April 21 (they're closed Tuesday).
Chef/owner Hanis Cavin is more than a little pork-obsessed; he currently sports four pig tattoos and counting — he even traded a whole pig for his last ink session. So, it's only fitting that The Eater San Diego Burger should be a pork burger, with a little more pork added for good measure.
The chef starts by fresh-grinding pork shoulder from Hill Family Farm, to which he adds carrots, peppers and parsley. Pork belly gets braised in molasses and sweet chili sauce, sliced, and then fried crisp and piled on top. An artisan pretzel bun from local Sadie Rose Baking Co. is spread with peppercorn and lemon aioli; fresh watercress helps to temper the richness. It all adds up to delicious; trust us, you're going to want to eat this.
All this amazing burger porn is $8; it comes with a side of corn relish but we recommend ordering an extra side of fries served with house made bacon fat-infused ketchup. Try it and let us know what you think; Happy Burger Week, we'll see you at the Snack Shack!
