The Carlsbad City Council has approved a new program that will allow restaurants in the coastal Carlsbad Village to transform existing parking spaces into "curb cafes". According to the Carlsbad Patch, this program is the first of its kind in San Diego County; businesses will have to apply for a special permit to expand their outdoor dining, but the ordinance allows up to 11 curb cafes in the area.
