Green Flash Brewing Co. announced today that they will build a new 58,000 square foot East Coast brewery; company co-founders Mike and Lisa Hinkley, along with brewmaster Chuck Silva, flew out for today's ground-staking at the 9-acre site in Virginia Beach, VA.

Hinkley told The Virginian-Pilot that they'd considered North Carolina before settling on Virginia; the $20 million facility is projected to be up and running by 2015.

Its layout and design will be similar to Green Flash's Mira Mesa brewery and include a tasting room and large beer garden; the location will have a potential annual brewing capacity of 100,000 barrels.

The brewery has already started being neighborly; Green Flash has established a line of credit with San Diego's White Labs to give access to all members of the Virginia Brewer's Guild to submit their beers for analysis, and they intend to offer to share the services of Green Flash's in-house lab. Similar to their San Diego beer series, Green Flash plans to develop a line of local Virginia Beach beers.
