Bird Rock Coffee Brewing Up New Shop in Little Italy

New, 1 comment

Little Italy has a new reason to wake up in the morning. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is planning to open a new coffeehouse at the corner of Juniper and Kettner, in the base of a mixed-use building that's currently under construction.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters first debuted their flagship La Jolla Boulevard shop and roastery in 2006 and launched a coffee bar in Petco Park earlier this year. Founder Chuck Patton told Eater that he's spent a year looking for a suitable location in Little Italy and likes the food and drink community developing along the northern end of the neighborhood, which includes Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits' new brewery restaurant and the impeding arrival of Juniper & Ivy.

BRCR is one of the best regarded "third wave" coffee companies in San Diego; Patton says the new shop will be the most advanced coffee bar in town. It will provide a showcase for their direct-trade coffee sourcing and be stocked with all the equipment necessary to brew the perfect cup; at 1,400-square-feet, it'll be larger that their Bird Rock location but have a similar, open layout.

The Little Italy shop won't be up and running until Summer 2014 but before then, Patton plans to move their coffee roasting operations, now based in Bird Rock, into a new wholesale facility.

Here's even more cause for rejoicing; by the end of next year, he's aiming to open a third Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in a yet-undetermined location.
