South Park to Soon Say Hello to New Italian Restaurant

Piacere Mio, the Italian coffeehouse that opened this past May in South Park, shuttered in November and posted a sign that the space would re-emerge as a restaurant.

Eater readers asked us to investigate and a tipster pointed us in the direction of Antonino Mastellone, who owns Ristorante Arrivederci and La Pizzeria Arrivederci on 4th Avenue in Hillcrest, North Park's Il Postino and a piece of just about every Italian restaurant in San Diego, including Little Italy's Buon Appetito and Osteria Romantica in La Jolla Shores.

Mastellone is teaming up with Piacere Mio's owners to open a new eatery in the space; it'll feature, among other dishes, pizza and handmade pasta; a space viewable from the dining room will showcase the chefs as they shape and cut the pasta dough. Mastellone says that the menu won't focus on any specific region's cuisine but will pull from the greatest hits of Italian food and popular dishes at his numerous neighborhood restaurants.

The South Park restaurant is due in a few months and the partners are reportedly still deciding whether to keep the name or start fresh.
