If you've jumped aboard the shaved snow bandwagon, you'll know that it's the Asian frozen dessert that has supplanted the frozen yogurt craze.
Likened to "frozen cotton candy", the snow is shaved from blocks of flavored ice into wafer-thin ribbons. Eater has learned a Florida-based chain, Chilly Ribbons, is headed to town to open three locations; one in Hillcrest (142 University Ave.) and one in Mira Mesa (9440 C Mira Mesa Blvd.) that will be stand-alone storefronts, plus a kiosk in the Westfield Mission Valley mall.
A rep for the company says that the brick-and-mortar locations, which will have a "mountain ski lodge" design, should launch by early 2014, but the mall kiosk will be up-and-running for the holiday season.
The shaved snow comes in over 40 flavors, including mango, green tea, coconut and butter pecan; in the stores, it'll be a self-serve operation, where you can mix and match flavors and toppings.
