MARKET Del Mar Emerges From Two Week Refresh

MARKET Restaurant + Bar hit their due date on the nose, opening right on time last night after a two-week shutter and refresh to the glee of eager regulars who flooded the restaurant's books with reservations.

One major addition is a Woodstone pizza oven, which sits just inside the restaurant's new front doors. Chef Carl Schroeder has designed a bar menu which centers around the oven and includes pizzas to warm olives, flatbread with buratta, roasted vegetables and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Though their original intent was to go with a "Napa feel" for the redesign, managing partner Terryl Gavre says they ended up heading in a more "clean and contemporary direction", with tweed-covered booths, slate leather seats and black wood chairs; Gavre likens the new look to a "beautifully hand tailored mens suit".
The glass-enclosed space adjacent to the main room will now be reserved for private event; in the dining room, Basile Studio (Bankers Hill, Polite Provisions) has lowered the ceiling, which makes the space seem more intimate, and installed more than 200 tiny lights overhead, for a sparkling canopy under which to dine.
