Continuing with Cocktail Week 2013, Eater brings you inside Frauds & Swindlers, one of the newer watering holes on our Cocktail Heatmap. Brought to San Diego by LA bar impresarios Aidan Demarest and Dave Whitton, Frauds & Swindlers (and its annex, Two Fingers Upstairs, which only serves its spirits neat) is working to position itself as a serious cocktail destination and craft-focused alternative in the Gaslamp.
Whitton, a cocktail vet, is often behind the bar and they've tapped local talent like Ian Ward of the Queen-Connor-Ward Collective to execute a menu that includes punches, sno-cones and fresh-pressed juice that can come spiked with a shot.
The bar also conveniently runs the Italian Next Door, an adjacent eatery that serves thin-crust pizza, stroboli and subs and is open until 4 a.m. on the weekends.
Or, feed your hangover with their just-launched weekend waffle brunch which runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; one option crowns the waffle with fried chicken and pairs it with a classic Ramos Gin Fizz, the other serves a berry-topped waffle with their Floozie cocktail, a mix of vodka, fresh kiwi/strawberry juice, lime and basil.
