Joining Societe Brewing and Helms Brewing Co. in Kearny Mesa is the new Council Brewing Company, soon to settle into a 2,640-square-foot space on Convoy Street.
Brewery founder, Curtis Chism, says that he chose Kearny Mesa because it has "room for more brewery expansion growth but already has existing breweries to help draw customers to the area."
The nano-brewery equipment arrives in December and Chism expects construction to be completed in February; Chism's wife Liz will head up brewing a core beer line-up that includes a Nelson-hopped Pale Ale and IPA, Imperial Oatmeal Stout and Belgian Dubbel, plus seasonal and barrel-aged beers which will be served in their 750-square-foot tasting room.
The homebrewing couple spent over a year searching for a suitable site in South Park, Golden Hill and North Park and still hope to eventually open a second brewery location there, but Chism says that the area currently has "few buildings large enough to house a brewery".
