Wondering who scored the highly coveted corner spot at Goldfinch and Washington, occupied by The Gathering Bar & Grill since the mid-80's? The U-T says siblings John and Jill Ealy, who own multiple restaurants including The Boathouse on Harbor Island, will open Harley Gray Kitchen & Bar in the Mission Hills space.

Eater spoke with The Gathering's founder and owner, Dan Thomas, who said that the Ealy's was the fourth proposal to come in for the location; he had "offers galore" but ultimately chose to go with the siblings, who impressed him with their "financial wherewithal" and ability to sustain multiple business ventures. Thomas wanted to clarify that the sale, which was actually closer to $500,000 mark, does not include the property, which he still owns. Though he will be Harley Gray Kitchen & Bar's landlord, he did say that he intends to give the Ealy's first dibs if he decides to sell the lot.

The Gathering will remain open pending the transfer of the current liquor license; Thomas said he may close at the end of the year. He is looking towards retirement, but says that giving up the restaurant is bittersweet now that the once-sleepy neighborhood is getting an influx of new restaurant life,.
