Local Chefs, Food Critic Guest on New Guy Fieri Show

Flavortown mayor Guy Fieri took a break from his Diners, Drive-ins and Dives travels to host the first season of a new Food Network series, Guy's Grocery Games, which pits professional chefs against each other in a "supermarket showdown" mixed with a cooking competition.

As reported, some local food personalities make appearances; four of Guy's Grocery Games judges live in the San Diego area (chef/hosts Melissa d'Arabian and Marcela Valladolid, SD Mag critic Troy Johnson and the newly-arrived Richard Blais of Juniper & Ivy).

The U-T has more insight on the show from d'Arabian and Johnson, who judged competition dishes prepared from a variety of grocery store ingredients, including canned and frozen food. Watch Fieri and these San Diegans on the Food Network premiere this Sunday at 8 p.m.
