PACIFIC BEACH — Karl Strauss Brewing Company is celebrating a milestone this year, their 24th anniversary in the beer business. This Saturday's annual Changing of the Barrels event at their main brewery will be an opportunity to taste their 24th Anniversary Flanders-style ale that's coming out a year in barrels and preview next year's 25th Anniversary Doppelbock before it heads into its long nap in oak. Tickets to the February 2nd party are $50; also included: food from MIHO Gastrotruck, live music, a commemorative glass and beer, lots of Karl Strauss beer. [EaterWire]
SHELTER ISLAND — Beer drinkers are also anticipating the February 2nd (Groundhog Day) grand opening of Fathom Bistro. Haven't heard about this craft beer bar/bait & tackle shop on a pier? Check out our sneak preview. Fathom's owner, Dennis Borlek, tells Eater that the bistro will be open this Saturday from noon until midnight; some of the rotating taps for the bar's debut will be nitro-pushed Token from Alpine Beer Company, a couple from of Societe Brewing Co., Monkey Paw's Kong Barleywine, the just-released Silva Stout from Green Flash and something delicious from Russian River Brewing Co. Fathom will also be open on Super Bowl Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m. [EaterWire]
