SOLANA BEACH— Monday's are usually a chef's night off, but on January 28, some of your favorite cooks will be on stage at the Belly Up Tavern for the 2013 Chef Bands event to benefit the Center for Community Solutions. Tix are $20 in advance or $30 at the door; hear bands from restaurants including Cafe Chloe, Urban Solace, Jayne's Gastropub and Romesco, and sample appetizers from ten local restaurants. [EaterWire]
EAST VILLAGE— The Tin Fork's Ed Bedford peeped a sign on the door at El Vitral on J Street that says the restaurant is closed for maintenance and renovations. We all remember a similar situation with Anthology, but El Vitral's management says the shutter is temporary. In the meantime, their Otay Ranch location is still open. [SDReader]
IMPERIAL BEACH— The local Patch is reporting that the Cohn Restaurant Group may open and operate a restaurant in the new Pier South, a boutique waterfront hotel that's scheduled to open in late spring. [IBPatch]
