Restauranteur Jon Mangini, the man behind the ballpark-adjacent BASIC Kitchen + Bar and North Park's URBN Coal Fired Pizza, is getting set to launch his newest creation, Gang Kitchen, a three-level Asian cuisine-focused bar, lounge and restaurant set in a 5,000 square foot downtown warehouse.

The furniture's supposed to be arrive this Thursday, and the opening's been rescheduled for next week, but Mangini had Eater San Diego in for a peek at what the space will offer.

This will be the most food-focused of his eateries so far, a "grown up" restaurant that he hopes will be as frequented by food lovers as the cocktail set. To help accomplish that, Mangini brought in Executive Chef Jo Ann Plympton, a new San Diego transplant and veteran chef with global cooking experience and residencies in kitchens from New York to Hawaii and the U.K. Plympton's menu at Gang Kitchen spans the Asian continent — from pho, ramen and fried rice to a ginger-marinated whole fish and Peking duck with scallion pancakes. Cocktails will range from the classic Singapore Sling to bubbly, house-bottled boozy coolers(think cocktails in champagne splits).
