Dumplings are having their day in San Diego. First Dumpling Inn got new digs, then Anthony Bourdain-sanctioned dumplings landed on Convoy, and now a fresh new dumpling option has arrived in Kearny Mesa at 8046 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.
We're hearing that the owners of Dumpling Hut, who opened their cash-only eatery yesterday, hail from Northern China and have a similar dumpling outpost in Canada. Everything on the menu is made in-house, from boiled dumplings filled with pork and celery or pork, egg and shrimp to pork and seafood potstickers. There are even two scratch-made Shanghainese specialities — soup dumplings, or xiao long bao, and sheng jian bao, or pan-fried soup dumplings, plus breakfast specialities that range from fresh soybean milk to crepe-like jian bing (savory egg pancakes). Frozen dumplings will also be available to-go once the restaurant makes enough to stock their freezers.
